Although mesquite is most commonly known for its wood, these trees produce fruit pods that have been used as food by indigenous people for thousands of years.

VITAL HEALTH BENEFITS: Makes for a great alternative sweetener because of its low glycemic index ((25±3, 36) depending on the reference food used as a comparison (glucose sugar or white bread, respectively)) and high soluble fiber content (3g Fiber per serving).
